Chrise's research focuses on 20th and 21st century German and American literature, film, and theater, as well as intellectual history.

Chrise is particularly interested in how texts in diverse media address trauma and the legacy of violence. He is exploring representations of shame and processes of resistance within the complex political and cultural circumstances of advanced capitalism. Furthermore, he is interested in the cultural transfer between Germany and the United States with an emphasis on the reception, adaptation, transformation, and intellectual history of Marxist ideas in America. In his free time, Chrise enjoys cooking, gardening, and traveling, among other less pastoral diversions.
